Naxos Beaches

Naxos, the largest island of the Cycladic island complex in the Aegean Sea, has many beaches, some are among the most beautiful in Greece.

Especially in Kastraki, where Summerland hotel is located, the Kastraki beach is the largest and widely accepted as the most ideal beach Naxos Island has to offer. The beach of Kastraki is about 16,6km from the capital of Naxos Chora (Hora) and is situated on the southwestern end of Naxo, between Mikri Vigla and Aliko. It is a magical beach with fine white sand that shape gently undulating sand dunes with shady cedar trees and clean crystalline waters.

Apart from all the other services offered at Summerland hotel, it also offers its guests free transportation to and from the beach with electric cars (to seal our commitment to the environment); sun beds and umbrellas are also free.

Summerland Holidays Hotel
For those that have a more adventurous spirit, by utilizing Kastraki as a base, they are afforded the opportunity to tour the other beaches of Naxos namely:

Agios Georgios (St. George) is a beach that is very close to the Chora of Naxos which has a very popular warm watered, shallow beach ideal for small children.

Apart from Kastraki on the south western end of Naxos Island there are several others which are amongst the most popular beaches of Naxos namely those of:

Agios Prokopios (Agios Prokopis) is the most famous beach of Naxo. This is a large beach that is well protected from the strong summer north winds, with a clean grained sandy beach that doesn't stick to the skin and turquoise waters.

Agia Anna is a natural extension of the Agios Prokopios beach and is just as popular. It has a fine grained sandy beach with cedar trees and a quaint little harbour with a jetty for small fishing boats.

Plaka is farther down with a very long golden sandy beach which is less visited and is preferred by nudists.

A series of consecutive coves is formed between Plaka and Mikri Vigla and the area is called Orkos. They all have clear waters and a favorite for those that prefer peace and quiet.

Surfboard fans prefer to go to Mikri Vigla. A series of large rocks separate two beaches Parthena and Sahara.

Farther south of Kastraki you will find Alyko, Pyrgaki, and Agiasos, all very peaceful beaches with fine sand, cedars and crystal clear waters.

Kalandos is to be found at the southern most end of Naxos Island and is the most protected from the wind as well as the most secluded beach of Naxos.

Moutsouna beach is to be found on the eastern end of Naxos at the other end of Apiranthos. This is a quaint jetty, a remnant of the emery excavation days, complete with an aerial cable car and a great view of the eastern small Cyclades.

To the south of Moutsouna are the beaches of Psili Ammos (fine sands) and Panormos which also has a finely grained sandy beach, blue waters and tall trees with a great view of the small Cyclades.

To the north of Moutsouna, lies the rocky, strewn with large pebbles beach of Lionas, this is the harbour of Koronos.

At the northern most point of Naxos island is Apollonas. This is a small and very charming fishing village with a combination of fine sand and large pebbles on its beach which are remnants of the ancient marble quarry where the ancient statue of Kouros lies in place.

And finally to the northwest of the island of Naxos you will meet the beaches of Abram and Amitis the former with pebbles and the latter with fine sands both of which are very quiet and picturesque.
